Lifting Each Other: The Bond Between ALL Crane and Liebherr

ALL Liebherr LTM 1450 for rent on a job
In the world of heavy machinery, some partnerships transcend ordinary business relationships. The close bond between the ALL Family of Companies and Liebherr was on full display when serendipity struck during an interview with Brian Peretin.

Peretin, general manager, sales, of the mobile and crawler cranes division of Liebherr USA, was driving down the highway as he answered questions about the relationship between his company and ALL. He soon noticed a familiar sight on the road ahead – a Liebherr boom being hauled on an ALL trailer.

“Oh, wait, I know where this boom is headed,” Brian said. He proceeded to provide details of an ALL lift in Virginia, showcasing just one example of the unique alliance of two companies committed to excellence in crane technology and customer service.

The Roots of a Remarkable Relationship
An ocean may divide ALL and Liebherr, but the two companies enjoy a shared DNA that has helped them develop a close partnership. Both ALL and Liebherr are independent organizations jointly managed by second and third-generation family members who understand the value of legacy, innovation, and personal commitment.

As you may expect, there is another major factor that drove ALL and Liebherr together – cranes. The Liebherr Group’s global presence is impressive, with more than 140 businesses and 50,000 employees spanning 50 countries, and an annual revenue exceeding $14 billion. That expanded focus hasn’t detracted from their focus on producing world-class cranes, something that has been a part of the Liebherr family since 1949.

ALL had similar beginnings when the three Liptak brothers founded ALL Erection & Crane Rental Corp. in 1964. What started as a single-crane operation in Cleveland, Ohio grew into the largest privately-owned crane rental and sales enterprise in North America. Despite the growth of both companies, ALL and Liebherr strive to allow for autonomy and independence within their organizations.

Liebherr enables all its factories to run as relatively independent organizations, each usually managed by a four-pronged team of equals, one each responsible for sales and service, engineering, production, and finance. All decisions are mutually agreed upon by the four. In the rare event they can’t achieve consensus, the matter is elevated to the family for discussion and final decision. All of which is to say, Peretin’s U.S. team that communicates with ALL’s own management team is empowered and autonomous, creating many opportunities for free-flowing dialog and deals to be made.

“Because we’re factory-focused, our customers deal factory direct. There are no dealers or distributors. You’re talking directly to us,” said Peretin. “It’s the same with ALL. I’m talking with Michael [Liptak, ALL’s president and CEO]. My guys are talking to his guys. We all know each other.”

Crane Technology that Transforms Jobsites
In addition to their similarities, ALL and Liebherr share a bond for a very simple reason – ALL purchases a lot of cranes from Liebherr. Liebherr dominates ALL’s all-terrain (AT) crane category, especially in higher weight classes, and is well-represented among lattice boom crawlers (including ALL’s current highest-capacity crawler, the 1200-ton LR 11000).

The bond relationship between ALL Crane and Liebherr goes far beyond a typical vendor-customer interaction. The close bond between the two entities is based on mutual respect, understanding, and a focus on end-user success. Liebherr’s cranes are loaded with innovative technologies like VarioBase®, VarioBallast®, and the LICCON3 crane control system that make work more efficient, easier, and more intuitive. These offerings align with ALL’s mission to provide end users with unparalleled maintenance, service, and breadth of fleet.

A Partnership that Benefits Customers
After years of working together, both ALL and Liebherr have a vested interest in each other’s success. The shared similarities, goals, and values mean that both entities are pulling in the same direction, and it is ALL customers who ultimately win.

“Every advancement Liebherr has brought to the market was driven by the needs of the people using our equipment,” said Peretin. “We do a lot of listening when we communicate with customers, and ideas flow from these interactions. Many ideas go into the hopper … but the ones that come to fruition are innovations that will make work better on real world job sites. That’s a process we have established in our facility’s 50 years.”

Whether you're managing a complex construction project or need specialized lifting equipment, the ALL Crane and Liebherr partnership ensures you have the most innovative, reliable technology at your fingertips.
