Thorough Maintenance and Inspections
ALL takes several preventative measures to improve crane longevity and reduce potential downtime. We have more than 100 technicians and mechanics performing maintenance and repairs in state-of-the-art facilities across North America.
ALL also leverages technology to support our extensive maintenance staff. We start with strict adherence to factory-recommended maintenance schedules for all heavy lifting equipment. Different tools and processes help us identify additional maintenance opportunities to keep our fleet ready for our customers.
- Asset management software tracks engine hours for every piece of equipment, which is used to set different maintenance schedules. This tool provides alerts for oil changes and other routine maintenance, while making records more accessible for everyone.
- Business intelligence technology uses data to recognize trends and patterns to preemptively address issues and improve operational efficiency. Our sheer volume allows us to identify if particular components fail at a predictable time across certain models of machines and allows us to be more proactive.
ALL also maintains regular inspections to uncover any additional issues or opportunities for improvement. Every crane for rent receives inbound inspections upon return to ensure that they are back in rent-ready shape for future customers.

Oil Testing
Oil tells an important story about the overall health of a crane. ALL regularly tests oil samples from every crane to assess the health of each piece of equipment and provide early detection against potential problems.
We sample and test oil from the engine, gear box, and transmission of every unit in our fleet. Each sample is sent to a third-party lab for in-depth evaluations. These tests can screen oil for various contaminants and other factors that can be warning signs for future issues, including:
- Worn gears and piston rings
- Bad bearings
- Coolant leaks
- Air intake hose cracks
Discovering these issues early allows ALL to take prompt corrective actions. In turn, this process allows us to prevent avoidable crane failures, prolong machine life, and provide more reliable rental equipment to our customers.

Backup Engines
Even with plenty of preventative measures, there is always a chance that an engine may encounter problems. That exact scenario is why ALL has backup engines ready to be shipped to any jobsite in the country to minimize downtime.
In addition to having backup engines in stock, ALL also has more than 100,000 parts packaged and ready to ship, including backup jibs and other attachments. We can have a replacement engine or part on the way immediately should one of our machines have an issue on the job.
Crane Winterization
Winter brings its own special set of challenges for cranes and other machinery. ALL takes special precautions to prepare our heavy lifting equipment for wind, rain, snow, and ice. Our team has extensive lift planning experience when it comes to winter jobs and takes the following preparations to cut down on the number of potential breakdowns and delays that adverse weather can cause.
- Regular checks to top off coolant and replace batteries as needed.
- A winter fuel treatment program that starts in September to protect engines before temperatures drop below 30 degrees Fahrenheit.
- De-rating cranes by certain percentages or weights according to outside temperature.
- Early startup for machines to let them run and warm up before use.
- Winterization packages available for new equipment, such as heaters for hydraulic tanks and additional fall protection.
- We also refresh our team on winter protocol and make sure they are outfitted with the appropriate winter gear.
